Already the aftermath of the decision of the All Progressive Congress (APC) national Chairman Chief John Odigie-Oyegun in the Ondo State governorship primaries has begun as Olusola Oke has dumped the party for Alliance for Democracy (AD).
There are also speculations that many other aggrieved aspirants, including Ajayi Boroffice may soon be toeing the same path as Oke in the coming days. Even some, who may decide not to, Ripples Nigeria learnt, have made up their minds to work with Oke while pretending to still be APC members and supporters.
Oke, who polled 576 votes after the September 3 Ondo APC governorship primaries, said he dumped the party because of the action of Chief Oyegun.
Oyegun had overruled the decision of the National Working Committee (NWC) for a fresh primary, after the party’s Appeal Committee, which probed the September 3 primary, submitted that the initial election was marred with irregularities.
National leader of the party, Senator Bola Tinubu and the former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, have all condemned Oyegun’s decision and called for his resignation.
Oke, while addressing supporters at his Ijapo Estate residence said the only option left for him was to dump the party since the leadership of the party failed to do what was appropriate to the irregularities that marred the party’s primary.
He argued that it was irrational for Oyegun to throwaway the decision of the majority members of the NWC after there was sufficient evidence that the party primaries was manipulated in favour of the governorship candidate, Rotimi Akeredolu(SAN).
It is likely that Oke may run as AD governorship candidate. This is as the National leadership of the AD is said to have formally written to the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) for replacement of its candidate for the coming governorship election in Ondo State.
It was learnt that AD had already intimated its candidate Dr Akin Olowookere of the party’s intension to use Oke and replace him and that he has welcomed the decision.
