Technically defeated Boko Haram kills 8 in church attack

An attack outside a church in Borno State, by suspected Boko Haram sect, has left at least eight people dead.

Residents said on Monday, that gunmen on bicycles carried out the attack after morning service on Sunday in Kwamjilari village, about 30 kilometres (19 miles) east of the town of Chibok.

Luka Damina, who disclosed the attack said, “Unknown to the residents, the gunmen had stationed some of their comrades on the road leading out of the village and they shot anyone who tried to flee. Some of the worshippers remained around the church and the gunmen opened fire and eight men died. Many people ran into the bush with gunshot wounds. But so far we can only confirm eight deaths.”

The attackers reportedly set fire to homes and fields of maize nearing harvest according to a chief in Kautikeri, who also confirmed that eight people were shot dead by the insurgents.

According to the chief, soldiers were afterward, sent to Kwamjilari from Chibok.

The attack happened even as Nigerian Federal Government and the Army, have consistently insisted that Boko haram has been defeated technically.
