IG seeks law against cow theft, ignores herdsmen menace

The Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has said the application of necessary laws meant to checkmate the illegal movement of animals can drastically reduce the incidences of animal thefts in the various parts of the country.

The IG, who stated this at a stakeholders’ meeting on the curtailment of cattle rustling in Nigeria held at the Force headquarters, Abuja on Tuesday, expressed the desire that the gathering would provide measures to curb cattle rustling and animal thefts in the country.

Idris was, however, silent on the frequent and bloody attacks on farmers by herdsmen in Benue, Enugu, Ekiti and Adamawa states as well as other parts of the country.
