A report labelled as “credible” released by Human Rights Watch (HRW) reveals that no less than 37 people have been killed by security forces in two days after violent protests against President Joseph Kabila erupted in the DR Congo capital of Kinshasa.
According to Ida Sawyer, Africa researcher for the New York-based human rights group, 20 people died on Monday and 17 were killed overnight and on Tuesday.
The number of those killed by security forces reported by the Human Rights Watch is in contrast to the number reeled out by Congo’s interior minister who said 17 people had been killed, three of them being policemen.
